Tour Policies
Requirements and Restrictions
Drivers on Guided Driving Tours must be at least 26 years old, and passengers must be at least 18 years old unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Passengers on Ride-Along Tours must be at least 18 years old unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
The following must be provided at least 72 hours prior to the reservation time to register a driver:

All documents must be valid, current, and unexpired. These same documents must also be presented on the day of the reservation. Documents that do not match what was provided in advance will be considered invalid and the tour will be cancelled according to our cancellations and refunds policies.
Booking Requests
Booking requests must be submitted online at least 72 hours in advance of the reservation time. Booking for Overnight Tours must be requested at least 1 week in advance of the beginning of the tour.
Booking requests may be declined for any reason.
All tour prices include fuel, ETC, additional tolls, parking fees, and vehicle insurance. The vehicle does not need to be refilled with fuel before its return.
Meals are not included in tour pricing, but may be available for purchase during pre-planned stops.
Japan Consumption Tax (JCT) is calculated and added at checkout.
Payment Methods
Orders can be paid by bank transfer or credit card. Cash payments are not accepted.
We accept American Express, Diners Club, JCB, Mastercard, and Visa.
Payment Period
Payment information will be requested during the booking request process but the customer will not be charged at that time. Upon approval of a booking request, Redpants will send a booking confirmation to the customer as well as an invoice and payment request. Payment must be made within 48 hours or the time slot will be re-opened for other customers.
Security Deposit
A security deposit of ¥200,000 must be paid by credit card for each car rented for a Guided Driving Tour. The deposit is refunded upon the satisfactory return of the vehicle, however payment information is retained for 3 months in case of traffic violations or other instances that may demand it after the fact.
Vehicle Insurance
Tours include vehicle insurance. This insurance covers the vehicle but does not include damage to its interior, wheels, or tires (including punctures).
Any damage to the vehicle's interior, wheels, or tires will be repaired at the customer's expense.
Booking Cancellations and Refunds
Bookings may be cancelled and refunds issued in accordance with the following criteria.
The customer will receive a 100% refund if:

Redpants cancels at any time due to weather, vehicle issues or concerns that prevent its use, or other concerns outside of Redpants' control not specifically covered by this cancellations policy. Or,

The customer cancels 7 or more calendar days prior to the reservation for any reason.
The Customer will receive a 50% refund if:

The customer cancels 3-6 calendar days prior to the reservation for any reason.
The customer will not receive a refund if:

Redpants cancels on the day of or during the reservation due to concerns about a customer (safety, driving, inebriation, impairment, judgment, capabilities, communication, validity of driving credentials, etc). Or,

The customer is unable to provide all required information, documentation, and security deposit. Or,
-
The customer cancels for any reason 2 or fewer calendar days prior to the Event.
Other Notes and Concerns
Redpants has a zero-tolerance policy for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and a customer may be refused service if Redpants believes the customer to be inebriated, hungover, or otherwise impaired.
Redpants reserves the right to cancel a tour at any time if the customer is believed to be incapable of properly controlling the vehicle, drives in an unlawful or unsafe manner, ignores instructions, or for any other reason that causes such a concern. If Redpants cancels a tour for any of these reasons, no refunds will be given.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What happens if there's a problem with my documents or the information I provide?
The documents and information requested during booking are required by law, our insurance providers, and/or for business purposes (billing, accounting, etc). Failure to provide these documents, or any issues with them, will result in the booking being cancelled. If a booking is cancelled, it will be refunded according to our cancellations and refunds policies.
Will a tour be cancelled due to bad weather?
Depending on the tour, the route may be changed due to inclement weather. Otherwise, tours are only cancelled if weather is bad enough to cause safety concerns. If Redpants decides to cancel a tour, a full refund will be provided to the customer.
Can I decide where we go on the tour?
Yes, with some limitations. The main limitation is time - Tokyo is a massive city and it can take a long time to drive through it to get to each place you want to go. Getting out of Tokyo can also take a long time, so the distance we can go on a single-day tour will be limited. Extending the time of a tour may be possible, and we're happy to do customized tours, so please contact us before booking if you're interested in a tour that's considerably different than our "pre-set" tours.
Can I drive just a short distance if I'm not registered as a driver?
No. Only registered drivers are permitted to drive during our tours. Not only is this a legal issue, it's also been a problem with unlicensed drivers causing accidents in Japan. Guests that are not registered as drivers can sit in the driver's seat so long as the vehicle's engine remains turned off.
Can I invite guests if I book a tour?
Yes, so long as vehicle seating can accommodate the number of guests participating. All guests must be registered in advance.
How much do guests cost?
Our tours are charged by the vehicle so there is no additional charge for guests, be they passengers or drivers. If a guest will be riding in the tour's lead vehicle (usually the Redpants V8 Vantage), then a Ride-Along Tour fee will be charged.
Can I make a last-minute booking?
Usually not. Ride-Along Tours with a single passenger in the Redpants V8 Vantage are sometimes possible, but Ride-Along Tours or Guided Driving Tours in our rental vehicles require booking at least 72 hours in advance.
I don't speak Japanese, can I still contact you?
Of course! We speak English, Japanese, and Portuguese. If needed, Google Translate can help as well.
However, our tours are conducted in English, and being able to communicate in English is required for our Guided Driving Tours. Our translator has limited availability but is able to be hired as an additional service, and she speaks Japanese and Portuguese natively, in addition to speaking English.
